Oakland Promise is dedicated to ensuring that every child in Oakland graduates from high school equipped with the skills, resources, and aspirations necessary for college success and career achievement. Our organization encompasses four key initiatives: Brilliant Baby, Kindergarten to College (K2C), Future Centers, and College Scholarships and Completion, all designed to provide comprehensive support from early childhood through higher education. Our strategies impact children and families at various educational stages, culminating in multi-year scholarships and ongoing support for college students. Our mission is to significantly enhance the number of college graduates from Oakland and foster a college-bound identity among all students, irrespective of their backgrounds.
Kindergarten to College (K2C) empowers students from kindergarten through fifth grade in Oakland to envision themselves as future college and career achievers. We offer scholarships and provide technical assistance and incentives for families to establish college savings accounts. Our program also includes activities that promote a college-going mindset, such as college visits, family workshops, and celebratory events.
Key Responsibilities:
K2C Program Implementation
- Oversee the implementation of the K2C program across a designated cohort of schools.
- Organize and facilitate K2C events, including workshops and college readiness activities.
- Support engagement initiatives that align with the K2C objectives of partner schools.
- Conduct site visits to nurture relationships with school teams.
- Communicate information about Oakland Promise events to stakeholders.
- Train school personnel to conduct K2C informational sessions for families and assist with college savings account sign-up events.
- Design outreach activities to involve families in the K2C program.
- Maintain accurate records and analyze data related to school cohorts.
Support for K2C Events
- Participate in events at assigned schools.
- Assist with K2C-specific and organization-wide outreach events.
Communications
- Manage K2C's social media strategy, creating engaging content and increasing audience interaction.
- Produce video content showcasing the efforts of the K2C and College Access teams.
- Develop promotional materials and graphics for K2C initiatives.
- Maintain partnerships through effective communication.
Program Development
- Contribute to the creation of materials for students and families.
- Assist in outreach to community partners.
- Support data management and program infrastructure, including family engagement platforms.
Additional Duties
- Conduct research on college savings accounts and college-going culture as needed.
- Collaborate with team members on general Oakland Promise events.
- If bilingual, provide translation and interpretation support.
- Perform other assigned tasks as necessary.
Required Qualifications:
- Strong commitment to educational equity.
- Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Outstanding interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Availability for occasional evening and weekend work.
- Access to reliable transportation for site visits.
- Creative mindset with a willingness to implement diverse engagement strategies.
- Self-motivated, respectful, and empathetic individual.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in a language other than English.
- Experience in developing training materials.
- Background in education with direct experience in schools and community engagement.
- Experience in management, education policy, or teaching.
Compensation:
- Annual salary range of $66k-$68k.
- This is a full-time non-exempt position.
- Benefits include medical, dental, vision coverage, sick leave, paid vacation, and a 401k match up to 3%.
