Educational Support Specialists are crucial to our educational environment, providing personalized attention to students in both individual and small group settings.
We value the expertise and aspirations of our Educational Support Specialists, many of whom are on a path to becoming educators themselves. While they are not responsible for leading instruction, they play a vital role in assisting lead teachers during lessons. Their responsibilities include supervising students and maintaining classroom order, allowing teachers to focus on delivering quality instruction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting in instructional activities to gain valuable experience.
- Monitoring student arrival and ensuring a positive classroom atmosphere.
- Supporting clerical tasks such as attendance tracking and lunch counts.
- Overseeing students during lunch, recess, and special activities.
- Actively participating in enrichment classes and supporting specialists.
- Monitoring student progress during assessments and small group instruction.
Clerical Support Duties:
- Preparing instructional materials and organizing the classroom environment.
- Maintaining an orderly classroom and providing support during work periods.
- Assisting with TIER II and TIER III interventions and data collection.
- Helping to organize field trip permissions and confirming chaperones.
- Documenting classroom activities for school communications.
- Facilitating arrival and dismissal processes.
- Occasionally serving as a substitute when the lead teacher is unavailable.
Expectations for Educational Support Specialists:
- Do not communicate with parents unless directed by the lead teacher.
- Avoid leading the class for extended periods.
- Do not take work home or plan lessons independently.
- Refrain from assessing student work or being solely responsible for instruction.
- Maintain alignment with classroom policies and procedures.
Open communication between lead teachers and Educational Support Specialists is essential for effective collaboration. The lead teacher will provide guidance on classroom expectations and responsibilities, ensuring a supportive environment for both staff and students.
