Job Title: HIM Specialist II
Job Summary:
The St. Charles Health System is seeking a highly skilled HIM Specialist II to join our team. As a HIM Specialist II, you will be responsible for working with internal and external customers to ensure timely and accurate management of confidential health information.
Key Responsibilities:
- Professionally answer inbound department phone calls and respond to requests politely and promptly.
- Provide excellent customer service by being attentive and respectful, ensuring understanding of customer request and following-through as promised.
- Prioritize release of information requests, retrieve medical records from active and inactive locations, and electronically track and deliver records in accordance with established procedures.
- Handle all Release of Information requests and inquiries for patient health information, verifying patient identity and confirming authorization is valid.
- Protect the confidentiality of medical record information as required by hospital and Federal/State regulations.
- Review and analyze electronic medical records for completeness and accuracy, flagging deficient items to the attention of the provider.
- May provide training and act as a subject matter expert, prepping, scanning, and indexing medical record documentation.
- Assist in Medical Record Department Quality processes and participate in continuous quality improvement for medical record documentation.
- Recommends process improvements to supervisor based on experience with all aspects of HIM positions.
- Covers for all HIM positions during absences.
Requirements:
- Associate Degree in Health Record Technology (RHIT) or 2 years equivalent work experience in a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of hospital/medical office experience with a Health Information Management focus.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, Protected Health Information (PHI), and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Excellent customer service skills, ability to multitask, and strong organizational skills.
Working Conditions:
This is a first shift position, working 32 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. The caregiver type is Regular, and the job family is SPECIALIST HIM.
