Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mobile Equipment Servicer to join our team at the U.S. Department of the Interior. As a Mobile Equipment Servicer, you will be responsible for performing routine and preventative maintenance on a variety of vehicles, including automobiles, light to medium trucks, snowplows, and tractors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on vehicles, including lubrication, fluid changes, and tire rotations.
  • Inspect vehicles to determine defects, excessive wear, or other problems that may require repair or replacement.
  • Use specialized equipment and tools to complete tasks, including hydro-electric hoists, pneumatic tire de-mounters, spreaders, impact wrenches, and air and grease guns.
  • Work from blueprints, repair manuals, work orders, and verbal instructions to complete tasks.
  • Plan for materials, tools, and equipment needed to complete tasks.
  • Perform shop support work, including cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment, and assisting with parts inventory.
  • May be required to operate and maintain a satellite accumulation area for the collection of hazardous materials.
  • Perform battery maintenance and recharging, including cleaning, checking for condition, and operating the battery and charging system.
  • Stage equipment for repair or maintenance by driving or pushing vehicles into specific shop locations.
  • Change tires and repair punctures, and check tires for improper wear indicating improper balance or alignment.
  • Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
Working Conditions

Work is usually performed inside on concrete surfaces where there is exposure to drafts, noise, and fumes from equipment. Occasionally the work may be performed outside under adverse weather conditions. Emergency road calls are required at times. The incumbent is continually exposed to dirt, dust, and grease, and to the potential for burns, chemical irritations, loud noises, shocks, bruises, cuts, and strains. Frequently exposed to exhaust and diesel smoke.

Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required.
  • You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.
  • You must also submit, and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work.
  • Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
  • Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
