Director of Student Publications

Join the University of Texas at Arlington as the Director of Student Publications, a key role in shaping the student media landscape. As the leader of the Student Publications department, you will oversee the production of the award-winning student newspaper, The Shorthorn, and provide guidance on journalistic and business practices for student media.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement strategic plans for the department, ensuring alignment with university goals and objectives.
- Oversee the management of student staff, including recruitment, training, and evaluation.
- Collaborate with university departments and programs to foster relationships and promote student media initiatives.
- Establish and maintain high journalism, advertising, and professional standards for the Student Publications department.
- Participate in university committees and attend training sessions to ensure compliance with internal controls and best practices.
- Bachelor's degree with at least three years of relevant experience in publication production and/or management.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with a general knowledge of print journalism.
- Ability to manage and interpret market and readership data, with experience in a multi-platform news environment.
- Master's degree with five years of media and publication management experience in an institution of higher education.
- Knowledge of press law and best practices in journalism, with significant management experience.
- Exposure to standard office conditions, with repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
- Use of manual dexterity, with occasional climbing of stairs.
