Overview:

Draper Labs, an independent research and development company, is seeking a Senior Radiation Engineer to support the design and development of radiation-hardened systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in radiation effects on system performance and a strong analytical mindset.

Job Description Summary:

The Contested Environments System Analysis group at Draper Labs is responsible for designing and developing radiation-hardened systems for the Department of Defense. As a Senior Radiation Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting system-level design trades and analyzing the impact of relevant environments on all aspects of system design.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Support engineering decisions based on radiation effects on overall system performance.
  2. Design and verify the performance of systems across multiple radiation effects, including dose rate, total ionizing dose (TID), neutron displacement damage (NDD), and single event effects (SEE).
  3. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure that radiation hardening is maintained across the product lifecycle.
  4. Develop solutions to complex problems with limited direction - contribute to task planning and technical development, propose ways forward, and adapt appropriately to changes in program requirements.
  5. Lead small teams (fewer than 5 people) and provide insight and suggest design modifications based on analysis outcomes.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills to support modeling and analysis tasks.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, especially with regard to planning critical test and analysis activities.
  • Solid understanding of radiation interactions with materials and devices.

Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $160,000 per year, depending on experience.
