Job Summary:

Under the direction of a registered nurse, the Obstetric Department Support Specialist performs various routine duties within the obstetric department, including maintaining a clean environment, organizing equipment, and providing basic care and comfort to patients. This role is responsible for assisting with operative and delivery room procedures, as well as providing clerical support to the Labor and Delivery team.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a clean and organized environment in the obstetric department
  • Organize and maintain equipment, supplies, and inventory
  • Assist with operative and delivery room procedures, as directed by a registered nurse
  • Provide basic care and comfort to patients, including vital sign monitoring and positioning
  • Provide clerical support to the Labor and Delivery team, including data entry and communication with other departments

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Surgical Tech or OB Tech is strongly preferred
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and one of the following: a graduate of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited Medical Assistant Program, a graduate of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited Surgical Technologist Program, or CNA or LPN is required
  • Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology is required
  • One of the following is required: State of Wisconsin licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse, State of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification, or completion of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited Medical Assistant Program or Surgical Technologist Program
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days of hire
