Job Summary

The City of Chesapeake is seeking a highly skilled and organized Administrative Support Specialist to join our Human Resources Department. This role will provide administrative support to the department, ensuring the smooth operation of our HR functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional administrative support to the HR department, including answering phones, responding to emails, and preparing correspondence.
  • Conduct or assist with new hire paperwork, including background checks, identification badges, and fingerprinting.
  • Assist with planning and execution of special events, such as benefits enrollment, organization-wide meetings, and employee recognition events.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the HR team.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; one year of college education in word processing, secretarial skills, or a closely related field preferred.
  • Minimum three years of full-time equivalent experience in administrative support.
  • Valid driver's license and driving record in compliance with City of Chesapeake policies.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficient with or ability to quickly learn PeopleSoft, Laserfiche, MUNIS, and CLICK.
