Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team in the Oncology department at Eastern Connecticut Health Network. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality patient-centered care, coordinate patient care, and communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients' medical and surgical conditions, including psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural aspects.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of adult and geriatric development principles and provide age-appropriate care to patients.
  • Assess and manage pain, utilizing appropriate pain management tools and techniques, and educate patients and families on pain management.
  • Develop and revise individualized plans of care, involving patients and families in goal-setting, and evaluate overall plans daily for effectiveness.
  • Follow medication rights and reduce the potential for medication errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on patient age and clinical condition.
  • Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and promotes positive patient outcomes.
  • Document the nursing process and responses to care in a timely manner, utilizing appropriate tools.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and critical thinking skills in priority setting and delegation.
  • Formulate teaching plans based on identified learning needs, evaluate effectiveness of learning, and include family in teaching as appropriate.
  • Provide accurate and pertinent reports of patients' conditions for safe transfer of care.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of antineoplastic agents, methods of administration, and ability to handle agents safely.
  • Ensure continuous monitoring for patients on remote telemetry and provide immediate assessment and intervention as indicated.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
  • Current licensure in the state of Connecticut.
  • Must have certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support upon hire or receive certification within the new employee introductory orientation period and maintain clinical competency during employment with ECHN in this role.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Possesses basic computer skills.
