Nutrition Services Specialist

The Virginia Department of Health is seeking a highly skilled Nutrition Services Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our public health team, you will be responsible for providing nutrition services to clients in various settings within the Three Rivers Health District.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct patient nutritional assessments and evaluations in clinic, school, and community settings
Develop and monitor nutritional care plans and food packages
Certify clients for participation in available public health programs
Schedule, provide, and document basic and secondary/high risk nutrition education
Make referrals to programs such as Medicaid, AFDC, and SNAP benefits
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or higher in dietetics or nutrition
Two years of work experience in nutrition or dietetics concurrent or subsequent to completion of degree
Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of nutrition and dietetics
Strong communication, organizational, and planning skills
Ability to respond to public inquiry regarding the WIC program
Preferred Qualifications:
Registered Dietitian
Prior public health experience and/or experience with WIC program
Knowledge of nutrition as it relates to public health
Experience utilizing effective and basic interviewing and counseling skills
