Director of Habilitation Therapies

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Habilitation Therapies to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations and activities of the Habilitation Therapies Department, including long-range planning and management of the department and coordination and implementation of therapeutic programming.
Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure that Physical Nutritional Management, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy/Audiology, Wheelchair Fabrication and other programs in the division are effective and meet licensure, ICF-IID, and other standards as applicable.
• Perform administrative functions of position including budget tracking, formulation and maintenance of departmental goals, policies, and procedures, and participation in facility management activities.
• Perform personnel activities as hiring, supervising and evaluating staff and fostering recruitment and retention of professional staff in order to maintain adequate staff to perform necessary programming.
• Ensure assistive equipment provided by the department meets the needs of the individuals for whom it is prescribed and is of appropriate design and fit.
• Complete diagnostic evaluations, develops therapeutic programs, and performs and monitors treatments as needed.
• Work with the Coordinator of Habilitation Therapy Services to share and facilitate best practices, insure uniformity of procedures, support system values and mission, and to assist the Coordinator to complete projects as requested.
• Serve as Clinical consultant in the therapies represented and in all aspects of Physical Nutritional Management.
• Provide oversight and participates in clinical activities with medical and individual team members to provide services in the area of high risk and nutritional management.
• Represent the Department of Health and Human Services as requested at local, state, and national conferences and meetings as requested.
Requirements:
• Extensive knowledge of therapy services including state-of-the-art practices.
• Ability to plan, supervise, coordinate, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of assigned services and staff.
• Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form to individuals or groups including presentations, professional papers, procedures, technical reports, other narratives.
• Ability to employ administrative/management skills to make effective decisions to benefit individuals' services.
• Ability to coordinate separate programs into an integrated working department.
• Ability to plan activities, complete complex tasks and make varied decisions within broad parameters and minimal supervision.
• Working knowledge of applicable ICF standards, Commissioner's Rules, TAC, Settlement Agreement provisions, and laws/regulations/professional practices.
• Ability to demonstrate work behaviors that reflect system and facility workplace and service values.
• Ability to utilize computers and other technology including ability to support IRIS.
• Knowledge of methodology and program development for people with developmentally disabilities.
• Proven ability to establish and maintain working relationships with staff at all levels, individuals served, parents, guardians, and other residents.
