As a Cellular ASIC Firmware Engineer specializing in 5G/4G, you will play a pivotal role in the embedded firmware initiatives within a silicon design group, focusing on the creation and commercialization of cutting-edge cellular SoCs.

This role demands a professional who is well-versed in all facets of embedded software development, thrives in a dynamic, multi-functional environment, engages in open discussions about ideas, and adapts to the ever-changing requirements of the industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement interfaces and call flows for data processing.
  • Guide teams towards the successful delivery of tightly integrated hardware and firmware features.
  • Develop and execute critical 3GPP protocols and data processing algorithms while adhering to stringent time, latency, and energy constraints, interfacing with specialized cellular ASIC hardware.
Examples of processing tasks include:

PDCCH, PDSCH, PBCH
PUCCH, PUSCH, PRACH
UL/DL HARQ
Collaborate with silicon designers to define hardware interfaces, processors, buses, DMA, accelerators, and memory subsystems.
Specify, design, and construct the firmware architecture for an innovative mobile wireless communication system.
Assist in developing pre-silicon emulation systems and virtual platforms for firmware design and hardware verification.
Evaluate and implement state-of-the-art tools for building, formal verification, and testing.
Establish methodologies and standard processes.
Qualifications:

Minimum BS degree with over 10 years of relevant industry experience.

Proficient in hardware control for physical layer 4G/5G or other modem data processing, with a solid understanding of 5G and 4G 3GPP protocols.

Deep knowledge of software engineering principles and core computer science fundamentals.

Strong proficiency in C and C++, along with experience in compilers, build systems, and source code management tools.

Extensive experience with memory-constrained Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and concurrent programming.

Comprehensive understanding of computer architecture, particularly the hardware/software interfaces of high-speed communication subsystems.

Experience with silicon prototyping, emulation systems, and virtual platforms.

Expertise in debugging embedded software systems.

Familiarity with UARTs, JTAG, and oscilloscopes, along with some experience in mainstream OS application-level development and scripting in Python or Perl.

Compensation & Benefits:

At Apple, base pay is just one component of our total compensation package, which is determined within a defined range. This structure allows for growth as you advance in your role.

The base pay range for this position is between $166,600 and $296,300, with your specific salary depending on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees have the opportunity to become shareholders through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.

Employees are also eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards and can purchase Apple stock at a discount through the Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
