Role Responsibilities: The Veteran Care Physician Assistant will engage in Family Practice and provide consultative services, encompassing thorough assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and clinical interventions. Key responsibilities include conducting comprehensive health histories, performing physical examinations, educating patients, and managing both scheduled and unscheduled outpatient visits. The role also involves ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, recommending treatments or referrals, and ensuring meticulous documentation of all patient interactions in the electronic health record system.

  • Direct Patient Engagement: Approximately 95% of the role will focus on direct patient care, which includes managing clinic appointments, following up on lab results, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals for case reviews.
  • Clinic Presence: The Physician Assistant is expected to be punctual and present for all scheduled clinic sessions, with attendance tracked through physical presence.
  • Medication Management: Adherence to established medication protocols is essential, and the distribution of sample medications to patients is prohibited.
  • Patient Discharge Education: The Physician Assistant will provide comprehensive discharge instructions and facilitate follow-up care coordination.
  • Administrative Engagement: About 5% of the time will be allocated to administrative responsibilities, including participation in meetings and performance evaluations.
  • Quality Improvement Participation: Active involvement in quality improvement initiatives is expected, including attendance at required meetings.
  • Compliance and Safety: The Physician Assistant must comply with all patient safety and infection control standards, ensuring immediate reporting of any incidents.
Key Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • A valid and unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant in any U.S. state or territory.
  • Current certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience, preferably within a veteran healthcare setting.
  • Current professional liability insurance.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
Health and Safety Compliance:
  • Proof of a negative Tuberculosis test is required.
  • Immunization records for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tdap, Hepatitis B, and COVID-19 must be provided.
