Job Summary

The Department of Veteran Affairs is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Physician to join our team as the Clinical Director of the Primary Care Service Line at the Fayetteville VA Health Care System.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Primary Care Service Line.
    • Ensure patient care is coordinated in accordance with professional standards and core values as it relates to ICARE principles and safe clinical practice.
    • Develop and implement performance improvement initiatives to address comprehensive care and wellness.
    • Direct the continuous measurement and improvement of the quality of care provided by the service.
    • Develop and administer performance plans and appraisals for subordinates as required by VA regulations.
    • Maintain quality oversight of resources, equipment, and personnel in support of the operation of Primary Care.
    • Assure services provided by Primary Care meet standards set by accrediting agencies which govern the quality of care for the Medical Center, to include, but not limited to the Joint Commission and the Office of Inspector General (OIG).
    • Responsible for the financial management of the service, including budget planning and management.
    • Collaborate with other service chiefs in the development and execution of the overall Medical Center strategic and business plan.
  • Clinical Duties:
    • Provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, treatment of disease, and care at the end of life.
    • Function as an expert consultant in health promotion and disease prevention and use advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate programs to promote healthy behaviors among employees.
    • Ensure practice-based learning and improvement, practitioners are expected to be able to use scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate, and improve patient care.
    • Demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team.
    • Demonstrate behaviors that reflect a commitment to continuous professional development, ethical practice, and understanding and sensitivity to diversity, and a responsible attitude toward their patients, their profession.
Requirements
  • 5 years' experience in healthcare leadership and supervisory experience with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in project and change management, innovation, and process improvement/lean projects is highly desired.
