Japanese Sushi Master Culinary Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Sushi Chef/Cook to join our team at Baru, a sophisticated Japanese-inspired restaurant and bar in the heart of the city. Our ideal candidate will possess extensive experience working in upscale sushi restaurants and demonstrate exceptional knife skills.
About UsBaru is a 30-seat central bar, 10-seat omakase bar, and 80-seat dining room establishment that offers an energetic late-night cocktail scene with a plush environment. We welcome sushi lovers and socializers alike in a sophisticated yet approachable dining experience.
Salary and BenefitsThe salary for this position is estimated to be around $50,000-$60,000 per year, depending on experience. In addition to competitive compensation, we offer employee discounts, free food & snacks, and a comprehensive benefits package.
Responsibilities- Expertly prepare traditional Japanese sushi rice, chopping, slicing, and filleting various kinds of fish.
- Inspect the quality of fruits, vegetables, and fish used to prepare sushi dishes and inform the Executive Chef when quality is sub-standard.
- Maintain a clean work environment in order to prevent food contamination.
- Regularly take inventory of food supplies and other products.
- Report any problems with kitchen equipment to the manager on duty.
- Sterilize all utensils, instruments, and equipment used in sushi preparation before every use.
- Proven experience working in upscale sushi restaurants.
- Sound knowledge of food safety regulations.
- The ability to work under pressure.
- The ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Excellent time-management skills.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Previous experience as a fine dining restaurant cook preferred.
- ServeSafe or Food Handlers certification preferred.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
- Excellent knife skills.
