- Ensure financial reports comply with current accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
- Accounting Operations:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the Controller team.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of financial transactions and the closing of accounting periods.
- Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency and internal controls.
- Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by staying up-to-date with existing and new legislation; advising management on needed actions.
- Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and assess any changes necessary.
- Monitor and manage financial risk, including credit, liquidity, and operational risk.
- Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a collaborative, productive work environment.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and support career development of team members.
- Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
- Strategic Planning and Budgeting:
- Assist in formulating the company's future direction and supporting tactical plans.
- Develop financial and tax strategies to optimize the company's financial performance.
- Oversee the financial planning and budgeting process, working with various departments to prepare budgets and monitor progress.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, IFRS, and other financial reporting standards.
- Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and accounting software.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Proficient in accounting software and MS Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum five (5) years of accounting or finance experience.
- Minimum three (3) years in a supervisory or management role.
- Preferred:
- Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CMA or CPA certification.
