Lead Educator for Preschool Programs

The Lead Educator for Preschool Programs is accountable for the daily oversight of the classroom, ensuring the organization, supervision, and safety of the children entrusted to their care. This role involves designing, overseeing, and executing educational programs that align with the policies, procedures, and core values of the YMCA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops and organizes a stimulating learning environment, establishing interest centers, and preparing necessary materials and resources.
  • Demonstrates and tailors the program to meet the unique needs of each child, considering their interests, challenges, special abilities, and age-appropriate activities.
  • Ensures that the classroom's layout, aesthetics, and overall environment promote effective learning.
  • Maintains open and effective communication with parents regarding their child's activities, progress, accomplishments, classroom behavior, and any concerns.
  • Models and enforces appropriate disciplinary practices in line with center policies.
  • Adheres to all licensing requirements and grant regulations.
  • Supervises the classroom and children during program activities.
  • Participates in staff meetings and program events.
  • Engages in continuous professional development training programs.
  • Performs any additional duties as assigned by the Preschool Director or District Executive Directors.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • At least one year of experience working with children in a preschool setting.
  • Must maintain current training and certifications as mandated by the YMCA and relevant licensing bodies.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is advantageous.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; capable of engaging with individuals at all levels.
Certifications Required:
  • State-approved CPR/AED certification (to be obtained within 30 days of hire).
  • Dept. of Children and Families training transcript.
  • 10 hours of in-service training certificate.
  • Staff credential verification letter.
As a condition of employment and a Drug-Free Workplace, candidates will be required to undergo and successfully pass a thorough Level II fingerprinting background screening and drug test.

Please note that failure to complete the drug test will result in automatic disqualification from employment.
