Role Title: Residential Product Innovation Lead

Company Overview:

Impact Housing (IH) is a purpose-driven organization based in Southern California, dedicated to the design, development, and construction of unsubsidized affordable housing for low- and moderate-income families. Utilizing innovative off-site construction techniques and modular design, IH effectively addresses housing challenges in urban areas. To date, the company has successfully launched over 800 housing units, with costs ranging from $275,000 to $400,000.

As a vertically integrated entity, IH boasts in-house capabilities in manufacturing, architecture, and general contracting, fostering an environment conducive to advanced product development initiatives aimed at enhancing our offerings. Currently, IH has the capacity to produce approximately 1,000 residential units annually and is poised to expand its production capabilities to meet market demands.

Product Development Philosophy at Impact Housing:

At the heart of Impact Housing's strategy is the ongoing development and enhancement of our standardized residential units, designed for efficient manufacturing and long-term maintainability. Our current product line, now in its second version, reflects years of refinement and innovation.

Impact Housing approaches product development as a holistic endeavor, considering not only the physical units but also the overall experience of our tenants. Similar to a hospitality brand, we focus on enhancing the living environment, including entryways, amenities, and customer interactions, such as marketing and leasing processes, alongside the development of a tenant digital application.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Define product vision and ensure alignment with business objectives and market trends.
  • Conduct market analysis to identify customer needs and product opportunities.
  • Continuously evaluate competitive offerings to inspire product innovation.
  • Develop and manage product roadmaps, timelines, and budgets.
  • Oversee design, prototyping, and testing phases to meet product specifications.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to enhance product quality and manufacturability.
  • Implement agile methodologies to improve product development processes.
  • Work with branding and marketing teams to create effective go-to-market strategies.
  • Monitor product performance post-launch and integrate feedback into future developments.
  • Manage stakeholder communications, providing updates on product progress to leadership and investors.
  • Establish strategic direction for product development operations in collaboration with company leadership.
  • Oversee the product process from development through production, proactively addressing issues and risks.
  • Track and report on product, program, and process costs.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends and technologies in the industry.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of ten years of experience in a product development role.
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required; a master's degree is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
