Job Overview

Position Title: Ambulette Driver

Reports To: Supervisor/Director of Operations

Position Summary:
As an Ambulette Driver, you will be accountable for the safe and efficient operation of ambulette vehicles, ensuring high-quality care for patients under our supervision. Additional responsibilities include assisting supervisors with necessary documentation and performing other assigned tasks.

Employment Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Valid New York State Commercial Driver License C or higher with Passenger Endorsement (or eligibility to obtain prior to employment).
- Clean driving record.
- Compliance with N.Y.S. DOT 19A regulations for operating an ambulette/school bus.

Physical Demands:
Ability to lift, pull, carry, and manage weights of at least 150 lbs. Mobility requirements include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and crouching, as well as reaching above and below shoulder height.

Work Environment:
Indoor and outdoor settings, subject to various weather conditions. Interaction with staff from hospitals, medical facilities, and nursing homes, as well as exposure to ill and elderly patients, including those with mental health conditions.

Key Responsibilities:
A. Operational Standards:
- Complete assignments as per the work schedule.
- Prepare ambulette vehicles for service before each shift (check and replenish supplies, clean compartments and windows).
- Conduct required vehicle inspections (fuel, fluids, oil, general operations) and complete inspection sheets.
- Inspect wheelchairs, securing devices, ramps, and safety equipment for proper functioning.
- Report and ensure resolution of any issues identified during inspections before departure.
- Clean and prepare vehicles for the next day's operations at the end of each shift.
- Respond promptly and efficiently to dispatch directives.
- Complete calls and return to service as needed.
- Perform additional assigned duties.

B. Documentation:
- Provide accurate written and/or electronic documentation of patient transports and mileage.
- Report all accidents, gather necessary information, and complete accident reports in accordance with New York State law and company policy.

C. Vehicle Operations:
- Attend defensive driving training.
- Adhere to N.Y.S. seat belt laws at all times.
- Follow all N.Y.S. driving regulations.
- Document necessary vehicle repairs as per company policy.
- Maintain cleanliness and condition of both the exterior and interior of vehicles.
- Operate company vehicles safely and professionally.

D. Patient Care Responsibilities:
- Ensure safe handling of patients during transfers and transport.

E. Professionalism:
- Collaborate effectively as a team member.
- Participate actively in the orientation of new employees.
- Uphold a professional company image and show respect for others.
- Demonstrate conflict resolution skills with co-workers.
- Identify areas for personal and professional growth.

F. Customer Service:
- Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with uniform policy.
- Practice good personal hygiene.
- Exhibit a calm and professional demeanor.
- Foster positive interactions with patients, medical staff, and the community.
- Ensure patient confidentiality by adhering to HIPAA regulations.

G. Attendance:
- Maintain attendance in line with company standards.
- Arrive for duty punctually.
- Provide timely notice for lateness or absence.
- Comply with policies regarding time off, sick leave, and shift swaps.
- Be willing to assist in meeting staffing needs due to unexpected changes.
