Position Title: Ambulette Driver
Reports To: Supervisor/Director of Operations
Position Summary:
The Ambulette Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of ambulette vehicles, ensuring quality care for patients. This role includes various duties as assigned and assisting supervisors with necessary documentation.
Employment Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent education
- Minimum age of 18 years
- Valid New York State Commercial Driver License C or higher with Passenger Endorsement (or eligibility to obtain prior to hire)
- Clean driving record
- Compliance with N.Y.S. DOT 19A regulations for operating an ambulette/school bus.
Physical Demands:
Must possess the strength to lift, pull, carry, and handle weights of at least 150 lbs. Mobility requirements include sitting, standing, walking, bending, and reaching above and below shoulder height.
Work Environment:
Work may be performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Interaction with medical facility staff and exposure to patients, including those who are ill or elderly, is expected.
Key Responsibilities:
A. Operational Standards:
- Complete assignments according to the work schedule.
- Prepare ambulette vehicles for service before each shift (check supplies, clean compartments, and windows).
- Conduct required vehicle inspections (fuel, fluids, oil, general operations) and complete inspection sheets.
- Inspect wheelchairs, securing devices, ramps, and safety equipment for proper function.
- Report and rectify any issues identified during inspections before departure.
- Clean and prepare vehicles at the end of each shift for the next day’s operations.
- Respond promptly to dispatch directives and complete calls efficiently.
- Perform additional assigned duties.
B. Documentation:
- Provide accurate written and/or electronic documentation of patient transports and mileage.
- Report all accidents, gather necessary information, and complete accident reports in accordance with N.Y.S. law and company policy.
C. Vehicle Operations:
- Attend defensive driving training.
- Adhere to N.Y.S. seat belt laws at all times.
- Follow all N.Y.S. driving regulations.
- Document vehicle repair needs per company policy.
- Maintain cleanliness of vehicle interiors and exteriors.
- Operate company vehicles safely and professionally.
D. Patient Care Responsibilities:
- Ensure safe handling of patients during transfers and transport.
E. Professionalism:
- Collaborate effectively as a team member.
- Participate in the orientation of new employees.
- Uphold a professional company image and respect for all individuals.
- Address interpersonal conflicts with co-workers constructively.
- Identify areas for personal and professional growth.
F. Customer Service:
- Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with uniform policy.
- Exhibit good personal hygiene.
- Display a calm and professional demeanor.
- Foster positive interactions with patients, medical staff, and the community.
- Ensure patient confidentiality by adhering to HIPAA regulations.
G. Attendance:
- Adhere to company attendance standards.
- Arrive for duty punctually.
- Provide timely notice for lateness or absence.
- Follow policies for requesting time off, sick leave, and shift swaps.
- Be willing to assist with unexpected shift changes.
