Assistant General Manager Job Description

Onix Hospitality is seeking an experienced Assistant General Manager to join our team at the Hyatt Place Wilmington Riverfront. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for assisting the General Manager in all aspects of hotel operations, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, and driving business growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the General Manager in day-to-day operations, including managing hotel staff, coordinating activities, and ensuring compliance with hotel policies and procedures.
  • Direct and coordinate hotel activities to achieve optimum efficiency and economy of operations, while maximizing guest satisfaction and employee engagement.
  • Provide training and coaching to staff, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge needed to deliver exceptional service.
  • Act as the hotel's public relations director, promoting the property within the hotel industry, local community, and trade associations.
  • Assist in resolving guest complaints and service recovery processes, ensuring prompt and effective resolution.
  • Assist in the selection and development of hotel staff, including completing new hire paperwork and conducting performance reviews.
  • Maintain accurate records, including cash flow statements, guest floor limits, and aging reports.
  • Assist the General Manager in key property issues, including capital projects, customer service, and refurbishment.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly property inspections, ensuring the hotel meets brand and company standards.
  • Build strong working relationships with hotel staff, Department Heads, and other departments, ensuring maximum operating effectiveness and special event needs.
  • Cover shifts in all departments as scheduled by the General Manager.
  • Monitor maintenance progress and Furniture, Furnishings, and Equipment conditions, providing status reports to the General Manager.
  • Audit par stock in all areas, ensuring all required hotel supplies are ordered and stocked in advance of need.
  • Perform sudden audits on rooms and other operating areas, ensuring compliance with hotel policies and procedures.
  • Provide effective leadership to hotel team members, ensuring they are equipped to deliver exceptional service.
  • Ensure hotel staff is provided with uniforms and name tags, upholding company and brand grooming standards.
  • Ensure effective, timely, and accurate communications flow regarding hotel policies and procedures.
  • Assist the General Manager in all aspects of business planning, including corporate client handling and new client acquisition.
  • Must be available 24/7 to respond to any guest or employee emergencies.
Requirements:
  • Must possess strong management skills, with the ability to delegate work effectively and accomplish goals.
  • Provide appropriate coaching, advice, and assistance as required.
  • Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
  • Available to work when needed, including weekends, holidays, and nights.
  • A College Degree, Diploma in Hotel Management, or a related field with experience preferred.
  • Experience in financial accounting, personnel supervision, and problem resolution is strongly desired.
  • Excellent computer system skills.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of hotel experience required.
