About the Role

Spectrum Center Schools and Programs is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Instructional Aide to join our team. As an Instructional Aide, you will play a vital role in providing individualized supervision and instruction to assigned students, while also supporting the core classroom staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist classroom teachers in creating a safe and inclusive learning environment that fosters high expectations for student learning.
  • Implement on-site and community-based curriculum instruction and behavioral intervention strategies that align with the goals and objectives of each student.
  • Provide individualized instruction and support to students during lessons, utilizing instructional strategies to assist with student learning and help students meet requirements for course completion.
  • Monitor student progress and communicate with classroom teachers to ensure consistency and make recommendations for interventions as needed.
  • Manage student behavior by upholding the Ombudsman philosophy and policies, and applying appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary.
  • Support students with academic issues, providing encouragement and working with students to improve their community, vocational, leisure, domestic, academic, and social skills.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation on student behavior, reporting observations to relevant staff and making recommendations based on observations.
  • Assist in the preparation of behavioral reports and daily activities logs as required.
  • Communicate necessary information to students, team members, supervisors, and parents regarding students' needs and academic progress in collaboration with classroom teachers and principal.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of student information and records.
  • Participate in the assurance and accreditation process to ensure the site meets performance plans.
  • Participate in school, student/parent, and student advisory meetings as requested.
  • Respond constructively to formal and informal feedback.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent with passage of basic skills test.
  • Associate degree or higher in an education or closely related field preferred.
  • Hold a current or have the ability to obtain a CA state driver's license.
  • Licensed as or have the ability to obtain a paraprofessional, paraeducator, teaching assistant, or similar credential preferred.
  • Prior experience working with children, preferably in a special education program setting.
  • Highly skilled in working with children with autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities, and/or challenging behaviors.
  • Comfortable driving and/or riding in a company van with students before and/or after school.
  • Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency and make independent decisions.
  • Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students that help move them toward realistic goals and next steps.
  • Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem-solving, and decision-making ability.
  • Knowledge of relevant technology, including experience with instructional technology, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry, and basic office equipment.
