Job Overview

VadaTech Inc. is a leading innovator in the field of embedded computing solutions. We are expanding our team and are in search of a skilled CNC Operator to join our manufacturing division. This position is designated for second shift (1:30 pm to 9:30 pm), with potential flexibility for first or split shifts as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate multi-axis CNC machines (true 5-axis, 3+2) in a vertical configuration.
  • Manage the operation of CNC Lathes equipped with Y-Axis and Live Tooling.
  • Formulate a comprehensive action plan to produce components in accordance with specifications.
  • Document and define the setup needed for each phase of the manufacturing process.
  • Oversee the production workflow and address any issues that may arise.
  • Adapt to a high-mix, low-volume production setting, primarily focused on initial part runs.
  • Thrive in a dynamic environment, capable of supporting the setup and operation of multiple first-run components weekly.
  • Maintain precision in machining, adhering to tight tolerances.
  • Update CNC programs based on quality data and other relevant inputs.
  • Operate both automated and manual machinery, including knee mills, drill presses, surface grinders, laser cutters, and part washing systems.
  • Utilize various measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges to inspect parts, ensuring compliance with drawing specifications. Familiarity with new inspection technologies, including hand-held CMM and Vision Inspection Systems, is advantageous.
  • Collaborate directly with internal stakeholders to provide estimates on project completion and tooling needs.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in interpreting 3D and 2D engineering models.
  • Conduct machine shop setups and perform routine equipment maintenance.
  • Assist with the fabrication of metal parts and fixtures as required, including cutting, jigging, and welding.
  • Perform daily cleaning and maintenance tasks on machinery.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety and regulatory policies in the manufacturing environment.
  • Promote a culture of 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) within the machine shop.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with multi-axis CNC operations, particularly Mazak 5-axis systems, is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret part prints and ensure machining accuracy.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding engineering drawings.
  • Additional skills in welding, grinding, and waterjet operation are a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of Mastercam is required.
  • Capable of troubleshooting CNC programs for errors and issues.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and their application in a machining context.
  • Strong background in using standard inspection tools for evaluating machined components.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in both R&D and production environments is beneficial.

Education and Experience:

  • Certification in Machining or Machine Tool Technology is the minimum requirement.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a CNC machinist role is essential; 7+ years is preferred.
