Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Biological Science Assistant to join our team in conducting spawning ground surveys of Oregon coastal streams. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for independently surveying selected streams to count naturally spawning salmon, collecting biological information from dead salmonids, and managing data for use in managing coastal salmon stocks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct spawning ground surveys by locating, driving to, and walking or boating selected stream reaches to count spawning salmonids and redds.
  • Collect biological information from dead salmonids, including length, gender, species, fin clip/tag status, scale samples, and fish snouts.
  • Manage data by entering field data into data collection devices, uploading data to servers daily, and ensuring data accuracy.
  • Participate in required training sessions, including field survey orientation, data entry, defensive driving, CPR/First Aid, and other agency requirements.
Requirements:

We are seeking applicants with a strong background in fisheries or wildlife science, or a related field. Experience with data management, field surveying, and working in remote areas is highly desirable. A flexible work schedule and ability to work independently are also essential.
