Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Substance Abuse Counselor I to join our team. As a key member of our Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDT), you will play a vital role in delivering face-to-face rehabilitative programming services to participants. Your expertise and passion for helping others will make a significant impact on the lives of those we serve.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver treatment programming services to participants and conduct group and/or individual sessions.
  • Effectively implement scheduled program curriculum, utilizing motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other therapeutic processes.
  • Engage participants daily, reinforce group rules and expectations for participation and completion.
  • Work directly with participants to develop and implement treatment/action plans and educate participants about supportive networks as they return to the community.
  • Review treatment plans, evaluate, and record treatment progress, including visible changes in appearance, behavior, and demeanor of program participants.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential participant records, evaluating and documenting the progress of participants assigned to their groups.
  • Complete all delivery documentation requirements, summarizing participants' background, treatment plan, and recovery process outcomes.
  • Prepare accurate, concise, informative reports, records, and plans that are consistent with Amity standards and comply with applicable clinical and administrative rules.
  • Liaise with transition/reentry staff, plans, and prepares transitional documents as directed by CDCR for continued community program activities.
  • Work collaboratively with CDCR, DRP, CCHCS, and institution staff, supporting and collaborating with co-faculty, including Supervisors, Directors, and Regional Directors.
  • Participate in monthly, block, cross-training, curriculum training, technical assistance training, or other training as appropriate.
Requirements
  • Minimum 6 months of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor.
  • Current AOD Certification with an organization recognized by the DHCS or Registration with BBS or AOD certifying body, depending on education level.
  • Understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse, appreciation for the behavioral, psychological, physical, and social effects of drug abuse.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and communication skills.
  • Operational knowledge of MS Office Suite and ARMS (preferred).
  • Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity under pressures generated by association with substance abuse treatment participants.
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior in order to maintain professional standards and safeguard the participants.
  • Protect and maintain program participants' health, safety, welfare, and confidentiality of records and participant information.
