Job Summary

Amazon is seeking a highly experienced Senior Manager, International Public Policy - Sustainability to join our Central Team in Seattle. This role will play a critical part in formulating and implementing government engagement strategies to support our environmental, energy, and social responsibility goals in Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Government Engagement: Develop and execute strategies to engage with governments and external stakeholders to advance our sustainability agenda.
  • Stakeholder Management: Coordinate Amazon's engagement with industry associations, coalitions, and local authorities to promote our public policy and advocacy goals.
  • Policy Development: Monitor and report on relevant legislative and regulatory activity, develop positioning and mitigation strategies, and draft collateral to support our advocacy efforts.
  • External Advocacy: Facilitate high-level meetings with policymakers, association executives, and other stakeholders to advance our public policy agenda.
  • Membership and Partnerships: Determine and maintain corporate membership opportunities in industry associations and political organizations to support our sustainability goals.
Requirements:
  • Public Policy Experience: At least 15 years of relevant public policy experience, with a strong understanding of policymaking processes and government relations.
  • Sustainability Knowledge: Strong knowledge of and background in advocacy and public policy development pertaining to existing and emerging sustainability frameworks in the Asia-Pacific region and/or the European Union (EU).
  • Communication Skills: Highly effective oral and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interact at the highest corporate and political levels.
  • Language Skills: Outstanding oral and written communication skills in English, with the ability to convey complex arguments in writing.
  • Professional Experience: 15+ years of experience in government or representing a large, complex company or association, preferably in the Internet/tech industry.
  • Personal Qualities: Ability to maintain the highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality, and integrity, with a strong professional reputation in the industry.
  • Collaboration: Proven track record of successfully working with a wide array of functional groups across an organization and cultures, as well as working independently.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to identify and understand key technical aspects pertaining to corporate operations in legislative and regulatory proposals, understand business implications, and synthesize policy documents for internal and external customers.
  • Influence and Negotiation: Ability to influence, negotiate with, and persuade others, with strong judgment/decisionmaking skills and political acumen.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in a second language, including French, German, Spanish, or Japanese, is preferred.
