Position Overview:
We are seeking a Family Worker to engage with middle school students and their families. This role is pivotal in fostering a supportive environment that promotes educational success and community involvement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain an understanding of agency and community resources.
  • Collaborate with mental health, medical, employment, educational, child care, and other social service providers to coordinate client services.
  • Conduct home and field visits as necessary.
  • Encourage teamwork and collaboration among staff members.
  • Build and nurture relationships with parents and families of program participants.
  • Ensure a safe environment for students and families.
  • Participate in internal and external agency meetings and training sessions.
  • Prepare and submit reports, including monthly updates to supervisors.
  • Assist with special projects and undertake additional duties as assigned.

Program-Specific Duties:
  • Deliver direct services to students and families, including engagement, referral, advocacy, and case management.
  • Work with the Community School Director, Social Worker, and School Personnel to identify students with chronic absenteeism.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience in a school environment.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or management role is preferred.
  • Familiarity with best practices in youth development is advantageous.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with young people, school administrators, community partners, and families.
  • Experience in program design, curriculum management, and implementation.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in modern business communication tools, including computers and electronic mail.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.
  • Capability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for prolonged periods.
  • Willingness to climb stairs as required for home visits and fieldwork.
  • Ability to bend and retrieve documents and objects.
  • Capacity to travel within the boroughs of New York City and nearby counties using public transportation.
  • Ability to travel at least 1 mile in various weather conditions, including inclement weather, for home visits and fieldwork.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged computer use.
  • Occasional lifting and moving of up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods.
  • Climbing stairs as necessary for home visits and fieldwork.
  • Bending and retrieving documents and objects.
  • Traveling within the boroughs of New York City and adjacent counties via public transportation.
  • Traveling a minimum of 1 mile in various weather conditions, including inclement weather, for home visits and fieldwork.
