Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County (NLSLA) is dedicated to providing free legal assistance to over 160,000 individuals and families annually. Role Responsibilities:

The attorney will collaborate with judicial personnel, court staff, and self-help team members to enhance access to legal resources for self-represented individuals. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting workshops on family law, housing issues, restraining orders, and other civil matters.
  • Training and supervising volunteer attorneys, law students, JusticeCorps members, and community volunteers.
  • Assisting in the preparation and review of court forms related to housing, family law, and other civil matters.
  • Providing legal education and appropriate referrals to clients.

This position reports to the Supervising Attorney and may lead to future advancement opportunities as a Senior Attorney. It is classified as exempt and temporary.

Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Actively engage in delivering legal self-help services both in-person and remotely.
  • Provide substantive support to paralegals, interns, and volunteers.
  • Manage a diverse workload of self-help assistance and technical support requests.
  • Collaborate with the self-help team and court partners effectively.
  • Travel to various locations as required.

Qualifications:

To stand out in this role, you should possess:

  • Experience in a legal services environment.
  • Skills in running clinics or delivering presentations.
  • Knowledge of family or housing law.
  • Bilingual abilities in Spanish or another language.

Requirements:

On your first day, you should have:

  • A Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and web-based case management systems.
  • A strong commitment to advocating for the legal rights of low-income individuals.
  • Empathy and compassion for supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is between $78,000 and $86,000. Benefits include:

  • A 35-hour workweek with a hybrid schedule.
  • 15 paid holidays annually.
  • 2 to 5 weeks of vacation based on seniority.
  • 12 days of sick leave per year.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance; life and AD&D insurance; FSA; and EAP.
  • A 403(b) retirement plan.
  • Monthly bilingual supplement.
  • Lawyer student loan reimbursement assistance program.
