CONTRACT DETAILS
9-month contract with a strong possibility of extension or transition to a permanent position.
The organization is looking to recruit a GIS Competition Analyst to join a team focused on the siting and selection of wind, solar, and storage initiatives. This role is characterized by a high degree of autonomy and involves responsibilities related to data creation, management, and analysis. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), cartographic principles, and demonstrate strong technical skills. Organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines are essential, along with the capability to work independently with minimal supervision. Attention to detail and robust computer skills, including experience with database-driven applications and GIS software, are crucial for success in this position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:- Collaborate closely with various departments within the organization’s Business Development team, including Project Development, Environmental & Permitting, Meteorology, Real Estate, and Acquisitions & Structuring.
- Provide GIS and cartographic support to Business Development, including the production of high-quality maps.
- Create and maintain accurate GIS data and spatial databases.
- Conduct research and assess public and private datasets to guide the siting of renewable energy projects.
- Perform comprehensive research on industry competition projects, interconnection requests, ownership interests, and energy markets; analyze environmental and site-specific constraints, zoning and permitting regulations, transmission capacity, and energy pricing to evaluate project status, viability, and economic potential.
- Investigate government records and online databases to analyze findings related to land interests.
- Incorporate research findings into GIS and tabular databases for spatial analysis by the competition analyst.
- Prepare presentations and deliverables for regular updates to decision-makers.
- Analyze data submitted by development managers and land acquisition agents concerning trusts, probates, corporate entities, and conveyance documents to verify contract execution authority.
- Collaborate with a software development team to assist in testing applications and tools that enhance workflow automation.
- Provide training to new team members on competition analyst processes.
- Engage directly with project developers to address inquiries and facilitate requests.
- Proficient in Esri ArcGIS desktop software, ArcGIS Online, ArcPro, and Portal.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in GIS applications such as ArcGIS and related extensions, with a solid understanding of GIS functionalities.
- Preferred experience in renewable energy development, project evaluation, siting, regional transmission grids, real estate, land records, local and state permitting, environmental studies, and economics.
- Experience in design, development, and debugging is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Geology, Environmental Science, Renewable Energy, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
