Position Overview:


This role encompasses comprehensive management responsibilities within the Health Information Management (HIM) sector of the healthcare system. The individual will oversee the planning, organization, staffing, direction, and control of the HIM department.

The position is pivotal in leading and directing health information management services throughout the healthcare organization.

Ensures adherence to regulations and advocates for best practices and education in all areas related to coding, documentation, and the legal health record.


Key Responsibilities:

Health Information Management:

Responsible for overseeing all functions of health information management, including chart analysis, Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI), coding, revenue integrity, regulatory services, document management, chart correction, forms management, and audits.

Provides leadership and direction to ensure the effective support and achievement of the health system's HIM functions through well-structured, efficient, and effective processes. Ensures compliance with state and regulatory standards.


Leadership:

Guides personnel towards fulfilling the organization's vision, mission, and objectives.

Creates an inclusive environment that promotes the development of team members, encourages collaboration, and supports constructive conflict resolution.

Fosters workforce engagement by instilling a commitment to excellence and promoting the organization's vision both internally and externally. Assigns responsibilities, clarifies expectations, and holds team members accountable for achieving results in their respective areas. Leads with intention and transparency, handling sensitive information with discretion.

Enhances the capabilities of others through continuous feedback and opportunities for learning, both formally and informally.

Manages and resolves conflicts in a constructive manner.

Change Management:

Additional Information:

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Hospital Administration, or a related field.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

  • Registered as a Records Administrator (RRA) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

Professional Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the healthcare sector with responsibilities related to health information management, including seven (7) years in a supervisory capacity.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in applying principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise. Ability to analyze and evaluate medical records and data, applying established standards and regulations to operational challenges. Capable of developing and implementing new or revised systems and procedures to enhance the maintenance and content of medical records. Strong planning, assignment, and supervisory skills for subordinate staff. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with a high level of interpersonal skills.
