Role Overview:

As a vital member of Synagro's Engineering Team, this position focuses on the technical development of projects that support our Business Development initiatives, particularly in facility-based solutions. The role may also involve providing process engineering assistance for ongoing facility projects. In the project development capacity, you will oversee project management, guiding teams in creating capital cost estimates and deliverables. In the process engineering aspect, you will collaborate with facility managers to address root causes and corrective actions, as well as manage capital projects aimed at optimizing facility operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver conceptual engineering designs, capital and operational cost estimates, and permitting support throughout all project phases, whether initiated internally or in response to customer requests.
  • Lead or assist in feasibility studies for new technology acquisitions or mergers and acquisitions, evaluating opportunities for existing services and facilities, culminating in documented cost-benefit analyses.
  • Act as a technical resource for the Business Development Group to support facility growth aligned with strategic planning.
  • Manage the implementation and budgeting of capital improvement projects, both with and without external contractors.
  • Monitor project schedules and budgets in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Provide technical and commercial evaluations, recommendations, and guidance to project teams for new development opportunities and operational enhancements.
  • Support proposal preparation in response to customer specifications and technical inquiries.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for development opportunities driven by customer needs or Synagro initiatives.
  • Review customer contracts during drafting and negotiation phases.
  • Conduct design reviews of third-party offerings to ensure consistency and validity.
  • Assist with startup activities to support performance testing and project acceptance.
  • Provide operational support to current facilities to ensure seamless integration of new technologies.

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline, preferably Mechanical or Chemical Engineering. A Professional Engineering License is highly desirable. A minimum of 10 years of experience in technical project management within industrial or manufacturing sectors, with biosolids experience being a plus. Familiarity with public agency operations is advantageous. Strong understanding of materials handling, process systems, composting, or thermal treatment is essential. Field or operational experience with a solid grasp of procedures and implementation is required. Proficiency in heat transfer, material handling, and biological kinetics is preferred. Proven leadership and team-building experience are necessary. General computer proficiency, including Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office, and AutoCAD, is expected. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
