Job Summary

Surgical Technologists play a vital role in the Operating Room, providing direct and indirect patient care to patients of all ages. As a member of the surgical team, you will be responsible for preparing the operating room, assisting surgeons during procedures, and maintaining a sterile environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the philosophy, policies, and procedures of the division of nursing and Department of Surgical Services.
  • Assist surgeons with surgical cases, following established sterile procedures and maintaining a sterile field throughout the case.
  • Prepare for scheduled operative procedures by arranging sterile setups, including drapes, instruments, and sutures, according to surgeon preference.
  • Pass instruments, sponges, sutures, and other sterile supplies and equipment to surgeons and assist during procedures.
  • Assist with circulating duties, such as opening supplies, assisting with positioning, obtaining equipment and supplies, and preparing the operative site.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an Associate or Bachelor's degree program for Surgical Technologist.
  • Preferred Certification: CST (Certified Surgical Technologist).
  • A minimum of 18 months experience is required for CST and/or Associate or Bachelor's degree.
  • If a Surgical Technologist program has not been completed, due to training on the job or trained in the military - Five (5) years' work experience is required.
Working Conditions
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients, surgeons, and other patient care personnel, often during emergency or stressful situations.
  • Analytical skills necessary in order to organize and prepare operating room according to best practice methods and procedures.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods and to occasionally lift and position patients when preparing patients for operative procedures.
