Founded in 1895, Side by Side has evolved from its origins as an orphanage to a leading organization in child welfare, dedicated to serving the most vulnerable youth in our communities. Operating across multiple counties, we provide essential services in behavioral and mental health, early school interventions, LGBTQIA+ support, transitional housing for foster youth, and special education. Our commitment to these services impacts nearly 2,500 children, young adults, and families annually. COMPENSATION

The hourly wage for this position ranges from $21.00 to $24.00, commensurate with experience.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

As the sole LGBTQIA+ service provider in South Alameda County, our program supports over 400 queer and trans youth each year, focusing on those in the foster care system who face heightened risks of isolation and homelessness due to their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression. A significant portion of our members are youth of color.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide supportive services, case management, and facilitate support groups for LGBTQ youth aged 14 to 21, with potential for younger youth under supervision.
  • Manage a caseload of 5-10 youth, ensuring thorough documentation of interactions.
  • Focus on placement stabilization and family services through individual meetings and group facilitation.
  • Collaborate with educational staff and community partners to address mental health needs and facilitate access to resources.
  • Engage in crisis intervention and support group facilitation within school districts.
  • Deliver training and consultation to educational staff to enhance LGBTQ competency in service provision.
  • Exercise independent decision-making while providing community-based support services.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners to enhance client support.
  • Promote awareness of our programs and services within the community.
  • Coordinate with Family Builders for shared client referrals.
  • Oversee communication platforms, including newsletters and promotional materials.
  • Facilitate appropriate service referrals for LGBTQ youth.
  • Participate in team meetings to support LGBTQ youth.
  • Transport youth as needed.
  • Network with community organizations to identify collaboration opportunities.
  • Engage in community events and programming as required.
  • Track outcomes and utilize measurement tools for program evaluation.
  • Submit timely reports and maintain regular communication with partners.
  • Identify opportunities for community engagement and outreach.
  • Assist in planning and executing community events.
  • Create and distribute content for newsletters and promotional materials.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working with LGBTQ youth, particularly those who are runaway, homeless, or current/former foster youth.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required.
  • Commitment to a positive youth development approach.
  • Experience in case management and training facilitation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and web-based applications.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must pass California Department of Justice and FBI fingerprint clearance.
  • Reliable transportation and valid California driver's license are necessary.
  • Personal vehicle insurance is required.
  • Covid-19 vaccination is mandated for all staff, with exceptions for approved accommodations.
