Project Eden delivers a diverse range of substance abuse prevention, intervention, and treatment services to children, adolescents, adults, families, and communities across various regions. The Prevention Program specifically targets at-risk populations, providing essential prevention, education, and brief intervention services directly on school campuses.
Impacting Lives
The Prevention Counselor plays a crucial role by conducting both individual and group sessions for program clients. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, notes, and collaborating with external partners such as school personnel, family members, and other service providers associated with each client. In this dynamic environment, professionals gain invaluable experience and knowledge in youth development, environmental strategies, and substance abuse prevention and education skills that will significantly benefit their future careers. The Prevention Counselor reports to and follows the policies and procedures set forth by the Program Manager.
Key Qualifications for Success
- Experience in Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Prevention and Education
- Prior work with youth in an educational setting
- Familiarity with environmental prevention strategies
- Associate Degree in SUD, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of counseling experience in SUD and co-occurring disorders utilizing evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Environmental Prevention, and Community Organizing
- COVID and Flu vaccinations are mandatory
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Experience in documentation and note-taking
- Proficient in leading group and individual prevention and education sessions
- Background in case management with clients
- Experience in harm reduction counseling and cultural sensitivity
- Familiarity with school and community environments
- Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record and car insurance
- Current CPR/First Aid certification is desirable
- Background check and drug testing are required upon hire
- Current flu vaccination
- Compliance with California Department of Public Health mandates regarding COVID-19 vaccinations
- TB Test
We are pleased to offer a comprehensive benefits package to all full-time and part-time employees working over 20 hours per week, which includes:

Salary: $25 to $28 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, language proficiency, and certification status.
