Job Description

We are seeking dynamic individuals to work at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Reactor Plant Contractors' Office (RPCO). This is a growth and development position that offers significant autonomy. Positions are available in Integrated Plant Testing and Refueling Services.

This is a hands-on position where you can play a significant role in integrating the efforts of multiple stakeholders to ensure the success of naval nuclear ship maintenance and construction.

The Test Engineer position requires 8-10 months of in-house technical qualification, and the Reactor Servicing Engineer position requires approximately 6 months of in-house technical qualification (less with prior applicable experience).

Upon successful completion of the technical training at either the Knolls or Bettis laboratory, the candidate will be relocated to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct highly visible work with a broad spectrum of responsibility, including technical support, consultation, and oversight through the performance of installation, testing, diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of complex equipment and nuclear systems.
  • Engage in a shipboard industrial environment, meeting directly with ship's force, senior shipyard leadership, and Naval Reactors.
  • Provide technical direction for problem resolution and oversee compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend new products and equipment upgrades as necessary.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science-related field and 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science-related field and 1 year of relevant experience; or Currently or previously EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or SRE qualified.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Previous experience in applying innovative solutions to resolve problems/improve performance.
  • Prior Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program operational or design experience is desired but not required.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring ability.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to varying tasks and responsibilities.
  • Experience working with US Navy Nuclear Fleet and/or nuclear capable shipyard.

Pay Range

$76,000.00 - $117,000.00 annually.

Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.

Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston.

FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations.

For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets.
