Position Overview

Fairview Health Services is looking for a Clinical Dietitian to provide nutrition support across various adult units. This role offers a flexible schedule, allowing you to select shifts as needed.

The Clinical Dietitian plays a crucial role in delivering medical nutrition therapy in collaboration with the healthcare team. This professional identifies patients at nutritional risk, evaluates their dietary needs based on age and specific health conditions, and formulates, implements, and monitors personalized nutrition care plans. The Dietitian also educates patients, families, healthcare staff, and the community about nutrition.

Key Responsibilities

Nutrition Care Plan Development:
  • Conducts thorough nutrition assessments in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Creates tailored nutrition plans considering age, cultural background, social factors, and other relevant needs.
  • Works collaboratively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Exhibits strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Orders necessary supplements, diets, and nutrition therapies as per established protocols.
  • Maintains accurate documentation and updates care plans as required.
  • Engages with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe and high-quality care.
  • Identifies and refers to interdisciplinary resources to facilitate implementation.
  • Applies established guidelines to determine the most effective action plans.
  • Continuously evaluates patient responses to interventions.
Patient and Community Education:
  • Designs and delivers educational programs tailored to the needs of inpatients, outpatients, community groups, and healthcare professionals.
  • Assesses patient understanding, readiness to learn, and potential for behavior change.
  • Assists patients and families in accessing available resources to meet their nutritional goals.
  • Serves as a mentor for dietetic interns and students, helping them apply their knowledge and skills.
  • Ensures proper documentation in medical records.
  • Keeps educational materials and resources up to date.
Effective Communication and Teamwork:
  • Communicates clearly and accurately in both verbal and written formats.
  • Interacts with healthcare team members, patients, and families, documenting relevant information appropriately.
  • Follows organizational and regulatory policies for documentation.
  • Shares important information with the Nutrition Department personnel.
Quality Assurance in Practice:
  • Adheres to system policies, practice guidelines, and nutrition therapy protocols.
  • Utilizes resources efficiently, including personnel, finances, equipment, and time.
  • Provides care in alignment with ethical standards and professional guidelines.
  • Meets regulatory standards and participates in performance improvement initiatives.
  • Regularly assesses the quality and effectiveness of practice, making necessary adjustments.
  • With appropriate training and credentials, may perform specific clinical procedures.
Organizational Expectations:
  • Demonstrates the ability to adjust care approaches based on developmental and cultural considerations.
  • Collaborates with patients and caregivers in decision-making processes.
  • Communicates respectfully and ensures a safe environment.
  • Customizes care plans to meet individual patient needs.
  • Modifies interventions based on the population served.
  • Provides patient education based on assessed learning needs.
  • Completes all organizational requirements and relevant training.
  • Complies with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required:
  • Registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration or eligible for registration, with registration to be achieved within a specified timeframe.
  • Licensure from the relevant state board of dietetics and nutrition practice, with timely receipt of licensure if licensed outside the state.
Preferred:
  • Experience of up to one year as a clinical dietitian in general practice, with one to two years in specialty areas.
