About the Department:
The Department of Geography and Geoinformation Science (GGS) provides an exceptional platform for studying and conducting innovative research in areas such as remote sensing, geography, geoinformatics, and Earth systems science. With diverse educational programs ranging from undergraduate degrees to graduate certificates and advanced degrees, a robust research agenda, and notable recognition among leading agencies and organizations in the field, our department stands out as a premier destination for academic pursuits.
About the Position:
The Assistant Professor role within the Department of Geography and Geoinformation Science involves instructing both graduate and undergraduate courses, alongside engaging in research focused on (i) cartography and geovisualization, (ii) geospatial data science, and (iii) quantitative remote sensing and digital image processing. The successful candidate will mentor students and contribute to departmental and campus service committees, in alignment with career stage expectations.
Responsibilities:
- Cultivate an externally funded research portfolio that aligns with the mission of GGS, and mentor graduate students at both the master's and Ph.D. levels;
- Provide essential support to our thriving programs in Geography and Geoinformation Science;
- Deliver core and advanced courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels (equivalent to two courses per semester); and
- Create new courses as necessary in areas of expertise.
Required Qualifications:
- Terminal degree in a relevant field; a Ph.D. in geography, geoinformatics, data science, or a closely related discipline is required by the time of appointment;
- Proven ability to establish a significant and active research agenda in a specialized field;
- A demonstrated history of publishing peer-reviewed research; and
- Capability to teach courses offered by the department and in a field of specialization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A proven record of excellence in teaching; and
- Potential for seeking and securing external research funding.
