Job Title: Director of Development

Job Summary:

The University of Virginia's Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Development to join its senior leadership team. As a key member of the school's development team, the Director of Development will play a critical role in growing and managing an integrated, high-performance development team that directly supports the strategic priorities of the school.

Key Responsibilities:

* Develop and manage a portfolio of principal and major gift prospects to solicit capital, endowed, and current use support.
* Develop a comprehensive annual operating plan for fundraising to include goals, objectives, strategies, tasking, and metrics for measuring performance.
* Execute the annual fundraising plan that incorporates effective and thoughtful use of travel, professional communication, and stewardship of donors.
* Strategically leverage the Dean's engagement with donors and prospects to enhance awareness, maximize reach, and optimize stewardship.
* Lead and mentor a team of highly motivated gift officers regarding best practices in prospect management and fundraising.
* Build constructive working relationships with faculty, staff, alumni, and other Batten School and University stakeholders.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues across the University and pursue a team approach to fundraising.

Requirements:

* Proven track record of managing portfolios containing donor prospects of $100,000+.
* Success taking a creative and entrepreneurial approach to identifying and cultivating prospects.
* Demonstrated ability to manage and develop fundraising strategies in collaboration with University leadership.
* Ability to engage donors in the Dean's vision for the Batten School.
* A clear thinker with exemplary writing skills that has the ability to effectively articulate the Batten School's and University's educational missions, strategic aims, and programs.
* Ability to meet and exceed stretch fundraising goals for a team.
* Experience managing staff; ability to balance managing staff and portfolio.
* A Bachelor's degree.
* Min. of 8 years of professional experience; at least 5 years of previous fundraising experience preferred.

About the Batten School:

The University of Virginia's Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy was founded to develop leaders and generate new knowledge to solve the world's toughest public policy challenges. With a founding gift from the late Frank Batten Sr. and a charge to prepare 'enlightened and ethical leaders,' the Batten School opened its doors in 2007 to a small cohort of graduate students. Today the school offers a Master of Public Policy (MPP) alongside its Bachelor of Arts and minor programs, dual-degree offerings, and an emerging executive education program.
