Opportunity Overview
WSP is currently seeking a Project Accountant/Sr Project Accountant to join our dynamic team. This position offers a hybrid work environment and will involve collaboration on projects across various Business Lines.
Role Responsibilities
Oversee and evaluate the collection, recording, and allocation of project costs and revenues, ensuring precise profit and loss assessments while communicating financial performance to management.Manage the complete lifecycle of project accounting, from establishing project accounts to validating invoices and reconciling project budgets.Conduct detailed accounting tasks related to contract management and billing for complex projects.Collaborate with Project Managers to set and adjust project budgets, providing accounting insights when modifications arise.Produce comprehensive financial reports, analyzing data for accuracy and presenting findings on cost trends and labor metrics.Monitor revenue recognition and unbilled balances to ensure compliance with accounting standards.Authorize access to project accounts and manage expense transfers in accordance with established guidelines.Maintain high-quality standards for financial records using Oracle and other software tools.Utilize accounting expertise to investigate project variances and submit reports to management.Review contracts and change orders for complex projects, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions.Identify and address issues in project financials, keeping management informed of any concerns.Ensure accuracy in draft invoices, collaborating with Project Managers for final approvals before submission to clients.Coordinate with subcontractors and Contract Administrators to manage subcontractor invoicing and payment requests.Follow up on unpaid billings and unbilled costs, ensuring timely resolution.Engage in project-related meetings to discuss financial status and address any identified issues.Prepare and submit necessary government reports related to projects.Compile information for audits and respond to auditor inquiries as needed.Work with cross-functional finance teams to execute project-related tasks effectively.Adhere to regulatory requirements for data integrity and documentation.Interact professionally with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients.Mentor junior accountants and interns, ensuring quality assurance in billing and project budgets.Stay updated on project accounting principles and practices.Exhibit ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct.Perform additional responsibilities as necessary to meet business needs.Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field.5 to 7 years of relevant experience in accounting and project management.Strong understanding of project accounting principles and their application.Ability to perform technical computations and understand contract stipulations.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration.Strong self-leadership and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.Proficient in technical writing and advanced Excel functionalities.Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze data and provide solutions.Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company policies.Willingness to travel as required by project needs.Preferred
Master's Degree in a relevant field.Familiarity with Oracle software.#LI-VD1
