Role Responsibilities

Oversee and evaluate the collection, documentation, and allocation of project expenses and revenues, ensuring precise profit and loss assessments, while effectively communicating financial outcomes to project management.Manage the complete lifecycle of project accounting, from establishing project accounts to monitoring budgets, validating invoices, and reconciling project financials.Conduct thorough accounting activities related to project contracts, billing events, and revenue exceptions for complex projects.Collaborate with Project Managers to set project budgets, adjust as necessary, and provide accounting insights during contract modifications.Create comprehensive financial reports and visualizations, ensuring accurate data representation and conducting analyses on labor costs and financial trends.Monitor revenue streams and unbilled amounts to guarantee appropriate revenue recognition.Authorize access to project accounts and manage expense transfers in compliance with established accounting standards.Uphold quality control procedures for generating precise project financial records utilizing accounting software and spreadsheets.Apply accounting expertise to assess project resources, labor, and expenses, addressing variances and reporting findings to management.Review contract and change order details for complex projects, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.Identify and manage key indicators for addressing project issues, keeping management informed of any concerns.Ensure accuracy of draft invoices based on client agreements, facilitating necessary corrections and obtaining approvals before submission.Coordinate subcontractor management, evaluating invoice accuracy and maintaining purchase orders.Track unpaid contract billings and follow up on outstanding accounts receivable.Respond to client inquiries regarding project expenses and oversee all project-related billing processes.Participate in project meetings to update the team on financial status and address any issues.Prepare and submit government-related project reports.Compile information for audits and assist with audit responses as needed.Collaborate with finance teams to execute project-related tasks effectively.Adhere to regulatory standards concerning data integrity and documentation.Engage professionally with regulatory bodies, subcontractors, and clients.Mentor junior accountants and interns, ensuring quality assurance in billing and budgeting.Stay updated on current project accounting practices and principles.Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct.Perform additional duties as required by business needs.

Qualifications

Essential

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).5 to 7 years of relevant experience in accounting and project management.Strong understanding of project accounting principles and their application.Ability to perform technical calculations and interpret contract specifications.Effective communication skills for interaction with diverse stakeholders.Strong self-management skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks.Proficient in technical writing and advanced Excel functions.Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to analyze data and reach logical conclusions.Ability to work collaboratively with clients and subcontractors on financial matters.Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company policies.Flexibility to travel as required by project needs.

Preferred

Master's Degree in a relevant field.Familiarity with Oracle software.
