Position Overview
This role serves as a key point of contact for patients regarding their financial responsibilities within the healthcare system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adheres to established departmental guidelines, objectives, and quality assurance standards.
  • Handles both outgoing and incoming communications with patients to facilitate payment collection or arrange payment plans.
  • Maintains clear and effective communication with hospital personnel, healthcare providers, patients, and insurance representatives.
  • Employs the computer system and its functionalities to manage patient accounts.
  • Utilizes call management software to respond to all incoming inquiries directed to the billing department.
  • Assists patients with inquiries related to their insurance coverage, billing statements, outstanding balances, and pricing structures.
  • Exhibits a positive demeanor in all patient interactions.
  • Records all patient communications in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Processes patient payments and allocates them to the correct accounts.
  • Addresses patient financial inquiries submitted through MyChart.
  • Guides patients in establishing their MyChart accounts.
  • Provides support at the front desk as scheduled and assists walk-in patients with financial inquiries.
  • Directs visitors to the appropriate departments from the front desk.
  • Ensures comprehensive resolution of patient accounts, including timely follow-ups with relevant departments.
  • Manages returned mail for billing statements and final notices.
  • Collects patient feedback and escalates issues to the Financial Counseling Coordinator as necessary, while addressing pricing inquiries independently.
  • Participates in training of new staff as required.
  • Prepares financial estimates for prospective patients.
  • Conducts quality assurance checks as assigned.
  • Utilizes interpreter services when necessary.
  • Verifies and forwards emails to the appropriate departments from the information message system.
  • Establishes payment plans for patients and communicates necessary information through letters.
  • Distributes Financial Assistance applications and refers patients to Financial Counseling as needed.
  • Maintains relevant HFMA certification and engages in ongoing professional development.
  • Participates in department-sanctioned training sessions.
  • Embraces and promotes the customer service philosophy and standards of Tahoe Forest Health.
  • Demonstrates organizational values in all actions and behaviors.
  • Follows all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience
An Associate's Degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical institution, or 6 months to 1 year of relevant experience.

Required Licenses/Certifications
Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA): Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) - Must obtain within 1 year of employment.

Other Experience/Qualifications

Required:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Access.
Preferred:
  • Bilingual candidates.
  • One to two years of experience in public-facing roles, particularly in patient registration or hospital billing environments.
