Job Summary:

As a Senior Obstetrical Technician at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in supporting the professional nursing staff in the Labor and Delivery Unit. Your primary responsibility will be to assist with non-nursing functions, ensuring the smooth operation of the unit and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct and check the work of other OB Technicians, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Participate in the orientation and training of new OB Technicians, sharing your expertise and knowledge.
  • Ensure that labor rooms and delivery rooms are equipped with adequate and well-functioning equipment and supplies.
  • Track preventive maintenance on equipment and expiration dates of supplies, maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Set up emergency equipment and welcome patients to the unit, escorting them to their designated rooms.
  • Obtain Kaiser Card and photo ID from patients, making temporary patient ID bracelets as needed.
  • Transport patients to delivery rooms, Cesarean delivery rooms, ultrasound, or postpartum areas, as indicated.
  • Check testing schedules and pull charts, ensuring that all necessary information is available.
  • Insure proper and adequate supply of packs, setting up sterile delivery tables and baby units for delivery.
  • Open packs and set up for Cesarean deliveries, scrubbing for c-sections as needed.
  • Assist RNs in the recovery room, delivery room, and Cesarean delivery room, providing support and care to patients.
  • File monitor strips in envelopes, washing instruments and placing them on central supply carts for sterilizing.
  • Transport specimens to the lab, maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
  • Willingness to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience as an Obstetrical Technician or in a related field
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
