Job Title: Senior R&D Technician

At Shockwave Medical, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior R&D Technician to join our team. As a key member of our R&D department, you will be responsible for developing catheter prototypes, providing feedback for prototype improvements, and working with R&D Engineers to develop and test new products.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and test catheter prototypes, including braiding, coiling, and laminating processes
  • Work with R&D Engineers to design and develop new products, including disposable devices and materials
  • Operate metrology tools, including SEM, DSC, DMA, and FTIR spectrophotometer
  • Assist in materials and process characterization, as well as defect analysis
  • Prepare test samples for routine and qualification testing
  • Transfer product from R&D to manufacturing
  • Validate test methods
  • Fabricate fixtures and tooling for product builds and testing
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting of lab instruments/equipment
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation of concepts, designs, drawings, test methods, and processes
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma required with a minimum of 5 years' experience as an R&D technician in the medical device industry or Associate's degree with 3 years' experience in the medical device industry
  • Familiar with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Documentation Practices (GDP), and laboratory practices
  • Balloon catheter, drug coating, valve, or other cardiovascular medical devices development is preferred
  • Proficiency operating metrology tools, including SEM, DSC, DMA, and FTIR
  • Experience operating braiding and coiling machines is highly desirable
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Experience using sketches, CAD, etc. to support the design and build of simple fixtures
  • Proficient with MS Office
  • Comfortable working in a clean room environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all cross-functional team members
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities
  • Operate as a team and/or independently while demonstrating flexibility to changing requirements
