Job Summary:

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Senior Obstetrical Technician plays a vital role in the Labor and Delivery Unit by providing non-nursing support to the professional nursing staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Directs and oversees the work of other OB Technicians, ensuring seamless operations in the unit.
  • Participates in the orientation and training of new OB Technicians, fostering a culture of excellence and teamwork.
  • Conducts regular checks on labor rooms and delivery rooms to ensure adequate equipment and supplies are available.
  • Tracks preventive maintenance on equipment and monitors expiration dates of supplies to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Welcomes patients to the unit, escorts them to their rooms, and ensures they have the necessary identification and documentation.
  • Transports patients to various areas of the unit, including delivery rooms, ultrasound, and postpartum, as needed.
  • Checks testing schedules, pulls charts, and ensures proper supply of packs to maintain a smooth workflow.
  • Assists in setting up sterile delivery tables and baby units for delivery, as well as opening packs and setting up for Cesarean deliveries.
  • Provides support to Registered Nurses in the recovery room, delivery room, and Cesarean delivery room.
  • Files monitor strips in envelopes and washes instruments for sterilizing.
  • Transports specimens to the lab and maintains a clean and organized utility room and supply rooms.
  • Answers lights and telephone, and performs other related duties as necessary.
Requirements:
  • Experience: The senior level classification for Obstetrical Technician applies to those who are specifically assigned to direct and check the work of one or more OB Technicians, or have at least two years of experience as an OB Technician with the ability to perform complex techniques and procedures under general supervision.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and basic computer skills.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills to interact with customers, clients, and other employees.
  • Willingness to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.
Education and Certifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
