This key role will be responsible for overseeing the Department of Sanitation's (DSNY) fleet sustainability programs, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and coordinating the rollout and maintenance of electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the New York State Motor Vehicles Safety Inspection Program (NYVIP3) to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Manage the citywide rollout of Level-2 and DC Fast Charging (DCFC) EV chargers to support the transition to an all-electric fleet.
  • Oversee the installation and maintenance of Solar Car Ports citywide to promote sustainable energy solutions.
  • Maintain all DSNY EV charging stations across the city to ensure reliable and efficient charging infrastructure.
  • Serve as a liaison to the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) for related Fleet Sustainability Programs to ensure seamless coordination and communication.
  • Develop a comprehensive roadmap and strategy to transition DSNY's fleet to all-electric vehicles by 2038, aligning with the City's sustainability goals.
  • Oversee the implementation of Renewable Diesel Fuel citywide, ensuring quality assurance and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Manage the citywide deployment of the EJ Ward Automated Fuel Management System to optimize fuel efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Oversee the Bureau of Motor Equipment (BME) Advanced Automotive Technician Training Program to ensure technicians have the necessary skills to maintain and repair EVs.
  • Coordinate operator training for all newly delivered Department vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Oversee the deployment and maintenance of all BME diagnostic laptops and automotive diagnostic software citywide to support technicians in their work.
  • Represent DSNY at various industry-related technical seminars, workshops, and Alternative Fuels Forums to stay up-to-date on the latest developments and best practices.
  • Draft service contract specifications and Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to ensure compliance with City procurement policies and regulations.
  • Manage budgeting and scheduling within the jurisdiction to ensure efficient use of resources and effective project delivery.
  • Secure funding for various Fleet Sustainability Programs, including CMAQ, DERA, Federal EPA, and NYSERDA grants, to support the transition to an all-electric fleet.
  • Coordinate the showcasing of Department vehicles at various local Clean Air events to promote the City's sustainability initiatives.
  • Oversee Geotab installation in newly delivered Department vehicles to optimize fleet management and reduce emissions.
  • Prepare annual Local Law Reports, including LL#77 of 2003, LL#38 of 2005, and LL#39 of 2005, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure the correct and complete performance of all assigned duties and tasks of subordinates within the area of responsibility.
  • Provide supervisors with guidelines, priorities, and information required to meet the Bureau's objectives.
  • Comply with inventory management guidelines to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of fleet assets.
  • Coordinate complex operational programs within various Bureaus and Divisions of DSNY to ensure seamless integration and effective delivery of services.
  • Respond to various 311 correspondences to ensure timely and effective communication with the public.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, logistics, transportation, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • ASE Certified.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in fleet management or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of fleet management principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in fleet management software and MS Office Suite.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Office environment with occasional site visits.
  • May require working outside regular business hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Physical ability to inspect vehicles and equipment as needed.
