Position Overview

The role of a Materials Scientist involves addressing intricate materials challenges encountered by manufacturers and users in the materials sector. This position requires a proactive individual who can effectively communicate the necessary material properties for various applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop analytical strategies to efficiently tackle complex materials issues.
  • Assist clients in defining the specific material characteristics required for their projects.
  • Engage in collaborative efforts with fellow scientists on various initiatives.
  • Employ Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy techniques to analyze the composition of diverse organic chemical mixtures.
  • Implement Thermal Analysis methods (TGA, DSC, TMA) to assess the thermal behavior of both organic and inorganic materials.
  • Utilize Electron Microscopic Analysis for high-resolution imaging of surfaces and particles, alongside EDS x-ray emission spectroscopy for elemental composition analysis.
  • Apply X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy to investigate the elemental makeup and chemical bonding of material surfaces.
  • Conduct X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry to evaluate the elemental content of solids and liquids.
  • Utilize X-ray Diffraction to identify chemical phases based on their crystalline structures.
  • Employ FTIR Infrared Spectroscopy for the identification of organic materials, assessing their decomposition, aging properties, and detecting impurities.
  • Utilize UV-Vis absorption and reflection spectroscopy techniques.
  • Perform contact angle measurements to analyze surface properties.
  • Prepare detailed analytical reports that elucidate the methodologies employed, results obtained, and their relevance to the materials challenges faced by clients.
  • Engage in follow-up discussions and additional analysis as required.

Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent in Materials Science, Chemistry, Materials Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of two years of hands-on experience in laboratory materials analysis.
