Job Title: Adult Education Instructor

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking an experienced Adult Education Instructor to deliver English Language Training (ELT), Cultural Orientation (CO), Job Readiness Training (JRT), and Digital Literacy instruction to support its education programs for refugees and other immigrants in New Jersey.

Job Summary:

The IRC in New Jersey is committed to providing high-quality education services to its clients. As an Adult Education Instructor, you will play a critical role in helping refugees and immigrants achieve their goals and become self-sufficient. You will be responsible for developing and implementing engaging lesson plans, providing contextualized instruction, and ensuring client data is collected and managed effectively.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that promote English language skills and job readiness
  • Provide instruction in ELT, CO, JRT, and digital literacy
  • Assess student learning and monitor achievement of performance outcomes
  • Design and administer student assessment tools
  • Coordinate registration, intake, and pre- and post-testing as needed
  • Monitor and track student participation in program
  • Assist with reporting requirements as needed
  • Attend regular team meetings
Requirements:
  • University degree and at least 1 year of experience teaching adult English language learners
  • TESOL degree/certificate preferred
  • Experience living in a country outside of the U.S. highly desired
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and student-centered teaching strategies
  • Comfort working with refugees and immigrants from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong culturally responsive interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience working with interpreters
  • Experience using Zoom or online learning platforms
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Language Skills:

English fluency required, fluency in another language strongly preferred

Working Environment:
  • Standard office work environment
  • Hybrid - some remote work optional for virtual classes
Compensation:

Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience, and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
