Medical Assistant

The Medical Assistant is a vital member of the healthcare team, providing high-quality patient care and support services in a fast-paced clinical setting. As a float pool Medical Assistant, you will have the opportunity to work in various clinics within the designated local region, providing supplemental staffing and supporting the delivery of patient care.
Responsibilities:
• Perform routine patient care responsibilities, including taking vital signs, venipuncture, collecting specimens, EKGs/ECGs, and POCTs.
• Collect patient history, perform medication reconciliation, and enter information in the electronic medical record.
• Note the primary complaint/reason for patients visit.
• Set up instruments and equipment for medical providers (MD, DO, PA NP).
• Assist with procedures as needed.
• Administer medication under direction/order of a supervising medical provider (MD, DO, PA NP).
• Instruct patients on general care and medical procedures as appropriate to scope of practice for an MA.
• Maintain patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
• Schedule patient tests, procedures, and appointments.
• Conduct patient outreach phone calls and post-visit follow-ups.
• Respond to routine patient phone calls and MyChart messages and route to RN, ACP, or Physician as needed.
• Perform clerical/administrative responsibilities, including filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
• Take inventory of clinic supplies and order supplies as needed.
• Support the clinic/departments compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Perform functions of the Office Associate/Patient Access Representative and be cross-trained to fill in this role as needed.
• Conduct Performance Improvement activities that support the clinic/departments goals for quality, patient experience, patient safety, and/or efficiency.
• Sort and distribute clinic mail and medical records to the appropriate clinic personnel.
• Flexible, dependable, hardworking, willing to work in a float pool position and be adaptable.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
• Successfully completed Medication Aide 40-hour course or current/valid Medication Aide certification by state agency required if applicable.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS) required. From American Heart Association
• Ability to perform EKGs, draw blood, and administer injections.
• Ability to effectively communicate to staff and patients.
• Demonstrated knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
• Through knowledge of the meaning and use of medical terminology and abbreviations.
• Demonstrate sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situations.
• Maintains a positive, caring attitude towards patients.
• Good computer skills using a medical management application.
• Possess a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism
