Position Overview:

With operations spanning over 75 markets across the United States and management of more than 180,000 apartment units, we are seeking a skilled Property Accountant to manage the financial operations of our communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare comprehensive financial statement packages, including the creation and posting of journal entries, along with a thorough review of the general ledger and balance sheet support schedules.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of financial packages for Regional Property Managers, Business Managers, and clients.
  • Monitor and manage cash balances effectively.
  • Address and resolve any issues while documenting responses to review comments.
  • Analyze variances in financial statements and provide explanations for significant discrepancies.
  • Calculate management fees and ensure timely payment of related invoices.
  • Conduct bi-weekly Inter-Project Account reconciliations and follow up on outstanding issues.
  • Guarantee timely payments for debt, real estate taxes, sales taxes, and owner distributions while maintaining internal schedules.
  • Verify the completion of bank reconciliations and ensure all reconciling items are resolved promptly.
  • Adhere to internal accounting policies and procedures diligently.
  • Confirm that budget information is accurately entered.
  • Assist with client audit requests as necessary.
  • Support the setup and transition of properties, which may involve loading beginning balance information, sale pro-ration calculations, and closing entries.
  • Make decisions with a general understanding of procedures, company policies, and business practices to achieve overall results and meet deadlines.
  • Take responsibility for establishing personal project deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from an accredited four-year institution, or a minimum of four years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • At least three years of related experience and/or training is preferred; CPA certification is a plus.
  • Strong ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret various business documents.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to respond to complex inquiries or complaints.
  • Capability to present information clearly to internal teams.
  • A high level of commitment to customer service, whether to colleagues or clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform well under pressure with a proactive approach to unusual situations.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and openness to new ideas and procedures are essential.
  • Proficiency in MS Office software (particularly Excel) and Real Estate accounting software (Yardi) is required.
