Position Overview

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in the hospitalist role will work closely with a diverse healthcare team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive assessments, performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and managing patient care effectively. The APP will also provide education to patients and their families to enhance their hospital experience and promote overall wellness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with attending physicians and healthcare team members to evaluate and manage patient care plans.
  • Coordinate clinical services for patients following established protocols under the supervision of a designated physician.
  • Engage with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement treatment strategies.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests to inform clinical decisions.
  • Perform specific medical procedures in accordance with established competencies and guidelines.
  • Monitor patient status and initiate appropriate interventions as necessary.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical pathways and protocols to enhance patient care.
  • Document all relevant patient information accurately in medical records.
  • Utilize prescriptive authority to manage medication and treatment plans.
  • Provide education and support to patients and families regarding health management.
  • Participate in the training and mentorship of new healthcare providers.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and contribute to the advancement of the APP profession.

Qualifications

Education

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program or Nurse Practitioner Program.

Certification

  • Current certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Nurse Practitioner (FNP, ACNP, etc.).

Licensure

  • Active and unrestricted medical license in North Carolina.
  • DEA prescriptive authority.

Experience

  • Preferred experience of one year in an orthopedic or similar advanced practice role.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare teams.
  • Capable of performing health assessments and prioritizing patient needs.
  • Proficient in using technology and software for clinical documentation.
  • Able to manage physical demands of the role, including lifting and mobility.

Work Schedule

This position requires a commitment to a flexible schedule, including a series of 12-hour shifts to meet the needs of the healthcare service.
